In 2019, the Festival will return with a weekend long celebration of running, music and wellness hosted in the towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay. Whether you want to entertain the family at our kite festival or relax at a yoga session by the beach followed by an afternoon of live music – we have it all. Just make sure you have your Festival Wristband on to gain access to all FREE activities.

FESTIVAL WRISTBAND

Your Festival Wristband is your key to access all of the the FREE activities on offer exclusively to Great Ocean Road Running Festival participants, including the wellness program, free kites for kids & live music. Ensure that you are registered in one of the seven distances on offer. The wristband can be accessed via your race pack however if not in the pack, wristbands can be accessed upon registration, just head to a Race Week Office with your race bib to collect your Festival Wristband.

Apollo Bay Festival Hub

Apollo Bay is home to the Start & Finish lines of all Saturday events, and the Finish line of the Ultra, Marathon & Half Marathon – but that’s not all!

Visit the Race Week Office in Apollo Bay to pick up your bib, your Festival Wristband, or a copy of the Great Ocean Road Running Festival Passport – your guide to everything to see and do during your weekend down the Great Ocean Road.

Check out the Festival Hub for deals on running products from Garmin & more. You will also find the Merchandise stand, where you can pick up some Official Event Merchandise.

The inaugural Pub to Pub Waiter’s Race – 1.05pm Saturday. Watch the action as local wait-staff battle it out, racing to carry a tray of beer from the Apollo Bay Hotel to the Great Ocean Road Brewhouse and back, trying not to spill a drop! Make sure you’re there to witness history in the making, and find out who will take home the trophy.


Lorne Festival Hub

This year we’re bringing more action to Lorne than ever before. Hosting not only the start line of the 60km Ultra, 44km Marathon & the Great Ocean Road Walk on Sunday 19 May, you’ll be able to take advantage of a range of activities in Lorne across Festival Weekend.

Participate in a free yoga class, head to the Lorne Hotel for some live music, or play a round of mini golf at the Lorne Sea Baths.


Wellness Program

In 2019 we are bringing you a new & improved Wellness Program at Great Ocean Road Running Festival, with a focus on yoga for runners.

All sessions are free to participants who register for one of the seven distances on offer at the festival – just present your Festival Wristband to participate in the class.

Yoga Warm Up for Marathon/Ultra Marathon

Take part in the pre-run yoga warm up where we’ll be targeting the core muscles you’ll be pumping throughout the race. A gentle stretch session, we’ll warm up the muscles to get you supple and prepped for the race ahead. Plus get balanced and ease out any race-day nerves with some gentle breathing exercises.

The Apollo Bay Hotel has announced its music lineup for the weekend:

Friday 17th May – The Beach Bloke playing form 9.00pm in the bar

Saturday 18th May – Back by popular demand Totally 80’s from 9.00pm in the bar

Sunday 19th May  – Afternoon session from 2pm in the bar Totally 80’s

Schooners of Furphy all weekend $6.00

Petting Farm

Fun Farm 2 U is a unique mobile animal petting farm experience, it offers children and adults of all ages the chance to have a hands on experience with a wide range of friendly, healthy & cute farm animals and poultry of all breeds, colours and sizes.

The petting farm will be at the Apollo Bay festival hub on Saturday 18 May.


Kite Festival

A kaleidoscope of kites in all shapes and sizes will take to the skies in Lorne and Apollo Bay during the Festival. Offering fun for the whole family, dual Kite Festivals will lift off on the spectacular foreshores of both towns all weekend long!

Free Kites for Children

All children who are registered in either the Great Ocean Road Walk, Kid’s Gallop, 6km Run or Garmin 14km Run will receive their own kite to decorate & fly. Make sure you’re wearing your Festival Wristband to claim your free kite, 10am – 4pm Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 May.

Nominal fee for non-participants.


Lorne Sea Baths

 

Located in magnificent seaside Lorne, Lorne Sea Baths is a fully equipped health, fitness and leisure facility, and strives to provide optimal comfort and convenience to all customers.

Opening hours during festival weekend:
Saturday 18 May 9.00am – 5.00pm
Sunday 19 May 9.00am – 5.00pm

FACILITY ACCESS

All Festival Wristband holders can gain free access to the Lorne Sea Baths facilities during Festival Weekend, including:

  • Trampolines
  • Mini Golf
  • Hydrobaths
  • Gym
  • Pool

Non participants have access at usual business costs.


Otway Fly

Otway Fly Treetop Adventures takes your rainforest experience to new heights in the lush surrounds of the magnificent Otway Ranges. Whether you’re soaking up the breath-taking birds-eye view of the rainforest on the Treetop Walk or soaring through the leafy treetops on the awe-inspiring Zipline Tour, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

Participants registered in a Great Ocean Road Running Festival event can take advantage of this 2 for 1 offer on entry to the Treetop Walk bywearing their Festival Wristband race bib upon arrival at the Ticket Office. Bookings not necessary.

Zipline Tours – 20% off

Participants registered in a Great Ocean Road Running Festival event can take advantage of a 20% discount on Zipline Tours.

Cape Otway Lightstation

Experience the heart pounding thrill of awesome views from the balcony of the Cape Otway Lightstation, 90m above the Southern Ocean. Located just a 35 minute drive from Apollo Bay, the Cape Otway Lightstation is the oldest surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia.

Australian National Surfing Museum

The Australian National Surfing Museum is the world’s largest surfing museum. Situated in Torquay, Australia’s surfing capital, it celebrates 100 years of surfing and beach culture in Australia. With themed exhibition spaces, films, photographs, kids activities and of course iconic surfboards, it traces the growth and developments around the amazing activity that is riding waves.
