Free yoga classes on festival weekend

We are excited to announce a new wellness & yoga program will form part of the action-packed weekend across Lorne and Apollo Bay on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 May 2017.

Featuring a mix of warm up, yin cool down and vinyasa yoga sessions suitable for all levels and abilities, the wellness program is open and free to all participants who register for one of the seven distances on offer at the festival.

Facilitated by Power Living and its team of passionate and highly experienced yoga instructors, the sessions will enable participants to limber up and reach new heights in their chosen distance.
IMG Festival Director, Marcus Gale said the yoga sessions are one of a number of new initiatives on offer at the event in 2017.

“Running long distances can be mentally and physically challenging so we are excited to offer participants a wellness program to help them prepare and do their best.

“The yoga sessions form part of a whole range of new activities on offer this year, adding to the festival atmosphere and providing an even better experience for participants and their family and friends,” Mr Gale said.

Vinyasa yoga sessions will take place at the Lorne Sea Baths on Saturday, 20 May, with warm up specific sessions taking place on the beach in Lorne on Sunday, 21 May followed by finish line yin cool down and acoustic vinyasa sessions in Apollo Bay.

Other new initiatives open to and free for participants at this year’s GORRF include the Kite Festival on the Lorne and Apollo Bay foreshores where everyone will see the sky come alive with giant flying whales, tigers, cats, dogs, dragons and more, plus kite making workshops from 10:00am – 3:30pm.

Live music and headline act, the Pierce Brothers will help runners get into their groove across the weekend at the Lorne Hotel while a great range of inspirational running films play at Lorne Theatre.

Formerly the Great Ocean Road Marathon, the two day GORRF has grown to allow runners of all ages and fitness levels to participate in one of seven events ranging from the Great Ocean Road Walk all the way up to the 60km Ultra Marathon.

Participants are encouraged to secure their spot in any of the free yoga sessions by registering online. Find the details about all of the activities on offer during Festival Weekend, and register for your free yoga class via our What’s On page.
